The first round of Copenhagen Chess Challenge 2009 started Wednesday evening with a strong international field of 76 players. There is a tuff program with 9 rounds in 5 days, and 12 boards are transmitted live on the net.

The field includes 8 grandmasters, if we also count the young rising Danish star Allan Stig Rasmussen, who took his final GM-norm in the Danish Championship in April a month ago and, now is waiting for his nomination in the near future. The other GMs in the field are Carsten Høi, Denmark, Stellan Brynnel, Sweden, Mikhail Ivanov, Russia, Krasimir Rusev and Evgeny Janev, Bulgaria, Henrik Danielsen, Iceland og Miroslaw Grabarczyk, Poland.

Furthermore the field includes 11 IMs, and among these the two IMs from the organising club BMS Skak, Nikolaj Mikkelsen and Bjarke Sahl. BMS Skak, and the CCC tournament, is situated in Ballerup, 15 kilometers west of Copenhagen. Other title holders are 9 FMs, 1 WIM: Oksana Vovk and 1 WFM: Louise Fredericia.

Besides being an open international tournament, the tournament also counts as the Copenhagen Championship 2009, a title which will be won by the best placed player from the Chess Federation of Copenhagen. The current Copenhagen champion, IM Esben Lund, is also playing in the tournament, and will, thus, try to defend his title.

Results can be seen in the table (cf. link "Results" above), and games can be drawn from the links inside the table - individually or by round etc.

Main sponsor of the event is the Danish investment company "Formuepleje" (cf. the company home page here), while the other sponsors are the Copenhagen Chess Federation, the Danish Chess Federation, the Danish Chess Support Federation and the organising club BMS Skak.
